Dear Friends,
For some families, instruction for their artistically gifted or talented child is totally out of reach. Through
our original organization, The Community School of the Arts, we wanted to help these economically disadvantaged
children to explore their talents and give them an opportunity to develop their ability to the fullest. We all have friends
or know someone whose children are victims of gang violence. As an antidote to our grief, we proposed a community arts program
to give neighborhood children safe, positive outlets for their creativity. In 2007 our proposal was accepted and
approved by Eau Claire Shalom Ministries, who encouraged us to start The Community School of the
Arts in partnership with The Clubhouse After-School Program. It was a resounding success. In 2008,
in partnership with Youth Institute of the Midlands under the direction of Eliza Williams located at 2014 Main St. Columbia,
S.C. 29201, an outreach ministry of Christ Central, we created Y. E. T. A. (Youth Enrichment
Through Art) which is another School of the Arts for minority and economically disadvantaged children. Our Summer
Camp which will begin June 8th, 2009 and will be located at 1105 Price St. (see
sign-up form at the bottom of this page). We will feature Music, Art, Dance, and Drama. We will be teaching children K- 10th
grade. We will be able to teach 50 students and have the state's finest choir, band, art, drama, and dance instructors.
DHEC will provide tutors for Health & Nutrition, The Columbia Police Dept. will volunteer
a Martial Arts Instructor. We will also have academic classes and field trips. We will provide 2 nutritious meals and
a snack every school day. The Camp will last 10 weeks. At the end of the Summer Camp the students will participate in a program
to display their talents to their family & the community.
We need sponsors to help us expand our program. We also need musical instruments of every kind, children’s
dance attire, office supplies, music stands, art supplies, and monetary donations. All donations are tax deductible. Please
